Is it inappropriate for a organization member to hold the positions of parliamentarian and the Bylaws Chair in the same term?
Dear Tina,
Not unless the positions are used to keep others from submitting bylaws. Hopefully, the person in these two positions is open minded, knows the rules and obeys them himself, and allows the members to submit bylaws to the committee. The person who knows parliamentary procedure should be on the bylaw committee to ensure that any bylaw changes conform to other sections in the bylaws and do not set up a conflict anywhere. So to answer your question, I do not see any problem with this person serving in these two capacities.
Cheerio,
Little Ben
